Granite, Travertine, Marble Cleaning In SW Florida

When homeowners research online for a quality granite, travertine, marble, or other natural stone cleaning company, how do they know who to choose or if the company has the experience to perform the service following industry standards?

Some companies pay Google, Yahoo, and Bing for ad placement to guarantee their company appears at the top of consumer search results. When you search online for a natural stone cleaning company, look to the left of the results to see if the company is paying to be there (the word AD will appear). Regardless of the company’s experience or reputation, they can pay for “at the top” placement because they know consumers are more apt to choose someone who appears at the top of their search results.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Tru-Clean Surface Care, SW Florida’s most referred stone cleaning, sealing, and repair company, offers the following for selecting the appropriate stone cleaning company for your countertop, flooring, or other natural stone needs.

What is Travertine Tile, and Is It Natural To Have Holes In it?

Travertine tile can be cream, white, dark or light brown, reddish, and similar colors. Travertine is formed through the accumulation of calcite from hot springs. It contains lots of holes that were created from water flowing through the stone. These holes are often filled when the stone is cut into tile by the processor with synthetic resins to fill the voids. There are also other travertine stone surfaces where the holes are not filled in to give the stone a more natural look.

Holes in travertine tiles can accumulate dirt and other debris. If your travertine requires repair or if you would like these voids filled, give Tru-Clean Surface Care a call any time.

What type of finish or look should my travertine floor have?

When a supplier orders travertine and marble, it is fabricated with a particular type of surface. Most home installations have what is called a honed surface. A honed surface provides a flat to low sheen gloss; however, different gloss levels are available. The surface of these stones is very smooth but often very porous. Honed floors should be protected with a penetrating sealer because of the open pores. Honed stone is not as vibrant as polished stone.

What should a polished travertine or Marble surface look like, and how is it done?

A polished stone has a glossy surface that wears away with time due to foot traffic and regular maintenance. Using improper maintenance procedures will decrease the durability of natural stone. The polished surface is very smooth and not very porous. The reflectivity of polished crystals brings out the brilliant colors and grains of natural stone. The shine comes from the natural reflection of the stone’s crystals. Powders and diamond pads are used during fabrication or after installation to provide a polished look.

Your travertine and marble’s shine does not come from a sealer but rather from the stone itself.

Is Marble A Good Choice For Countertops and Flooring?

Marble countertops and floors are gorgeous, elegant, and often the main attraction in fine homes and structures worldwide. In fact, marble is arguably the most striking feature found in the Taj Mahal. The richness of marble makes it attractive to interior designers who select marble as a beautiful floor covering, countertops, and accent pieces.

Although marble is a natural stone and can withstand the test of time, it is composed of calcite and is easily etched or otherwise compromised by strong acids and cleaners. Although vinegar should NEVER be used on marble, it has become the all-purpose cleaner of choice for many households and one of the leading causes of etching damage to this natural stone.

When maintained, marble surfaces will last for generations and maintain their beauty. Tru-Clean Surface Care can preserve, clean, seal, and repair all marble types.
