Travertine Care Throughout SW Forida

Travertine is beautiful and found in the lobbies of many businesses, banks, and homes throughout SW Florida.

Travertine tile can be cream, white, dark brown, reddish, and similar colors. It is formed through the accumulation of calcite from hot springs. Travertine contains holes that were formed from water flowing through the stone. These holes are often filled with synthetic resins or types of cement from the stone quarry before being sold to a wholesaler or tile store.

The homeowner was concerned with etching and a dull surface in this above. Tru-Clean Surface Care was hired to remove etching (dull spots), clean the stone, and seal it. The client wanted a matte finish.

Tru-Clean Surface Approach To Cleaning And Polishing Travertine Stone

We treat the surface with a pH-neutral cleaner designed explicitly for travertine. After sufficient dwell time, we hand scrub each grout line and then use a specialized stone cleaning machine to deliver 900lbs of washing power at 245 degrees safely. This leaves the stone’s surface and divots as clean as possible.

NEXT

We fill any naturally occurring holes and divots with a unique travertine “epoxy” matched to the stone’s color. Over time, travertine tends to develop pits that should be filled to prevent further deterioration. This service is optional as some clients like the “holes” as it adds to the stone’s “character,” and some clients would like the holes to “go away.”

THEN

We polish and hone as needed to achieve the desired level of shine, whether natural, satin, matte, or glossy. This process takes time to achieve, resulting in a great-looking stone floor.

The polishing process is achieved in combination with diamond pads and polishing powders. Our technicians are highly knowledgeable about stone and are certified to clean all stone types. The polishing process will continue until we meet the client’s desired look.

And Finally

We seal your tile and grout. We apply a good quality penetrating sealer to protect the tile from stains. Natural stone sealants provide stain resistance vital to preventing stains and dirt from penetrating your travertine.
