Ozone Treatment
What is Ozone Treatment and Odor Removal?
For odors such as tobacco, staleness, and pet urine contamination, traditional homeowner attempts at odor removal are temporary at best and are not sufficient to remove offensive odors. Instances of fire damage, mold, nicotine contamination, marijuana, and even rotten smells may necessitate a professional ozone treatment. Realtors and property managers rely on the odor treatment services of Tru-Clean Surface Care to remove offensive odors from homes that are for sale or lease.
What Is Ozone And How Does It Work?
Ozone is a colorless gas that is very reactive and has the ability to oxidize odors. Ozone is similar to the oxygen we breathe, except for the fact that each molecule is made up of three atoms of oxygen rather than two (the air we breathe contains two molecules). This additional atom is what helps eliminates foreign odors by attacking the structure of the odor-causing element.
To treat homes and businesses experiencing odor issues, Tru-Clean Surface Care uses an ozone generator to generate “ozone atom storms.” The ozone atoms attach to and react with odor molecules to neutralize them. Ozone works to break down the atoms and bacteria that are causing the offensive odor and then degrades them into components that do not stink.
Offensive odors such as tobacco occur when the nicotine component of smoking sticks to a hard or soft surface such as cabinets, curtains, carpeting, furniture, ceilings, and walls. To effectively remove the cigarette odor, we recommend wiping down all hard surfaces with “Simple Green” (a cleaner that can be purchased at Lowes or Home Depot). If the home has soft surfaces such as curtains, furniture, and carpeting, you should have them cleaned professionally. The last step is the introduction of Ozone.
When Ozone gas is introduced to a home, you MUST not enter the house for a period of twenty-four hours while the gas is being generated. After twenty-four hours, our technician will remove the generator, air out the home, and then treat it a second time with an enzymatic gas. Once this second treatment is performed, you can reenter the house after one hour.
Ozone treatments are highly effective and used by hotels worldwide to eliminate cigarette and other foul odors that can not be eliminated through housekeeping or other deodorization efforts. Ozone is also used by insurance and restoration companies to remediate odors from homes and businesses that have been affected by fire, mold, and flooding.
