Filtration Lines Around Baseboard

If you have light colored carpet, you may have experienced dark lines appearing around your doorways and along baseboards. These dark lines are called filtration soiling because it comes from air passing through the carpet as it attempts to get through the crack between the carpet and the baseboard or under a closed door.

As air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, this microscopic soiling is deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This occurs over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a buildup has occurred.

This type of soiling is difficult to remove because the soil particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the carpet pile, sometimes into the backing of the carpet.

Can it be removed? Sometimes. With specialized products, time and effort, reasonable results may be achieved. A regular carpet cleaning will not eliminate these lines.

To help prevent filtration soiling, vacuum the edges of your carpeting on a regular basis. Also, be sure to change your AC filters monthly and reduce the burning of candles and incents. When cleaning these areas, be careful around the tack strip on the edge of the carpeting, it could nick your fingers!

Great job on carpet cleaning

I personally use True Clean for my own carpet cleaning and have recently used them to clean a client’s furniture and valences at a Condo to get rid of pet dander and they did a fantastic job.
