Pet Urine and Carpeting - What You Need To Know!

Pet odor is a very common problem in many homes throughout SW Florida. At Tru-Clean Surface Care, we can help you deal with pet challenges. From minor problems to major headaches, we can help find the solution that works best for you.

The problem with pet odor is that it can be much deeper than it first appears. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of carpeting into the padding underneath. In more severe cases the urine can penetrate the wood or concrete sub-floor beneath the padding where it lingers as bacteria.

Pet urine, with its strong alkaline composition, coupled with nauseous bacteria, salt and acids can contribute to a worsening of the odor problem as well as a permanent color loss of the carpet fibers and delamination of the carpeting glued foundation.

To eliminate pet urine odor and bacteria issues, the urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers effected. If the contamination is limited to only the face yarn of the carpet, then the cleaning itself may effectively remove the odor. In more severe cases a urine neutralizer and antibacterial agent with enzymes may be applied.

In the most severe cases, replacement of the carpet padding, treatment of the under-side of the carpet and the sub-floor may be required.

Pet urine, with its natural off-gassing effect, if left untreated, can be absorbed into many of the porous materials in your home. Draperies, sheetrock, upholstered furniture, baseboards, even the concrete foundation are just a few of the materials that can absorb these odors.
