How To Treat Pet Urine Issues On Your Carpeting In Cape Coral

There are few things worse than walking into your home to find that you’re pet has urinated on the carpeting.

What most people don’t realize is that pet urine odor removal should not be your only concern in this situation. But, what else is there?

Pet stains must be treated quickly or else you risk serious damage to your carpeting caused by the acids in our pets urine. If these stains are not treated properly, they begin to penetrate deep into the carpet’s fibers and padding making the process more difficult to remove the stains. The stains left behind after cleanup contain salt and acids that can deteriorate carpet fibers to the point where the stain can become permanent, the padding can deteriorate and fibers begin to weaken.

Pet urine can permanently discolor the dyes in your carpeting if not treated immediately. No one wants to have a beautiful, rich-colored carpet with one conspicuous spot in plain sight. It’s unsightly and can ruin the appearance of any room. Additionally, the smell of soiled carpeting can attract bacteria growth in your carpet and padding which affects  indoor air quality, not to mention the first thing visitors smell when they enter your home.

So, how do you properly treat the carpet if you are fortunate to catch your pet in the act?

Keep a bottle of tonic water in your refrigerator and have on hand white vinegar.  For fresh urine deposits mix 3 parts tonic water and one part white vinegar.  Saturate the urine area and then dab with a white cloth. Pay attention not to scrub or rub vigorously or you could damage or “bloom” your carpets fibers.  When you have retrieved as much liquid as possible, let the area air dry.  You can also speed up the drying process by folding a few paper towels and laying them on top of the area and weight them down with a brick or other heavy object or use your hair dryer on a low setting.
