Is what they’re selling really a “good deal?”

We’ve all seen the ads “five rooms of carpet cleaning for $34.00” but is this really a good deal?  What are you getting for $34.00?  I can tell you this, you’re not getting clean carpets and that’s a fact!

Recently we came across a newspaper insert from a local carpet cleaner advertising “Any 5 Rooms – Regardless of size” can be “steam cleaned and deodorized” for the too good to be true price of $34.75.  That’s right folks, just $34.75.  As we read the ad more closely we discovered if your carpets are dirty you would need to purchase a “pre-conditioning agent” for .25 cents per square foot.  I don’t know about you but we’ve never been to a clients home who requested their carpets be cleaned if the carpets weren’t dirty.

As mentioned above, this company is advertising they will “steam clean” your carpets for this incredibly low price.  What this means is they will come to your home, try to upsell you on their “pre-conditioning” treatment for an extra cost and if you refuse to let them charge you extra, they will “steam clean” your carpets.  Keep in mind that steam cleaning means just that.  They will not include the cleaning solutions necessary to remove dirt, pollen and oils in accordance with The Carpet & Rug Institute or IICRC standards.  They will merely run a wand across your carpeting and will be in and out of your house in no time flat.  Your carpets WILL NOT BE CLEAN!

…And the deals just keep on coming.  This same company also advertises a “Super Saver” super duper deal!  For $129.95 they will “steam clean” (there’s that word again) 5 rooms of carpeting, PLUS a sofa, loveseat and chair.  Of course, if you want “pre-conditioning” on the carpeting or upholstery that’ll cost you extra.

In analyzing this company’s $34.75 deal for 5 rooms – here’s what you’ll be paying by the time they are done with you.

If you have 5 rooms of dirty carpeting they will charge you an additional .25 PER SQUARE FOOT in addition to the $34.95.  If each room on average is 150 square feet and you have 5 rooms, the additional cost to clean them is $187.50 (5 rooms X 150 sq. ft each = 750 sq. ft. times .25 psf) and remember this is in addition to the $34.75.  Folks $222.25 is NO DEAL to clean 5 rooms of carpeting in SW Florida.  Maybe in NY City but not in Lee, Collier or Charlotte County.

A quality carpet, tile an upholstery cleaning doesn’t have to cost an arm-and-a-leg but if you invite the wrong company into your home, this is what you’ll be faced with.
