Ceramic/Porcelain Tile and Grout Cleaning

Ceramic and porcelain tiles make up the majority of the tile floors we see in SW Florida.  These tiles are manufactured in a variety of colors, textures, sheens, and styles.  They can be a simple single color or made to look like natural stones such as marble, slate, travertine, or limestone.

Ceramic or porcelain tile is an excellent choice for many people.  These tiles are nearly impossible to stain and are very durable.

The weak link to ceramic or porcelain tile flooring is the grout.  Grout is basically just cement that has been colored and is meant to bond the tiles together to keep them in place.

Grout is a porous texture, making it susceptible to collecting dirt, absorbing cleaning chemicals, pet urine, food, oil, etc.  Porous substances absorb liquids that can turn into bacteria and invite mold and mildew if not addressed.

Liquids that contain colorant, acid, alkaline, or tannin properties such as coffee, tea, red wine, kool-aid, or pet urine, can permanently stain grout.  The longer these liquids sit on the grout, the deeper the dye properties will penetrate, and the more damage that will occur.
