As a full-service company, we routinely clean natural stone such as travertine, granite, limestone, marble, and manmade tile such as ceramic and porcelain. When we receive a service call for “tile cleaning,” most of the time, the homeowner is complaining about ugly, dirty grout lines.
Grout at its most superficial level is nothing but colored concrete. It is very porous, and the color of the grout can wear off, becoming permanently stained due to improper cleaning agents, pet urine, acidic spills, foot traffic, etc. Dirty grout harbors bacteria and can off-gas, contributing to poor indoor air quality. Ugly tile or grout lines can destroy the look and “feel” of a home. We’ve had realtors contact us and ask to have the tile in a home cleaned because the “ugliness” is destroying the “curb appeal” or the house “stinks.”
When cleaning natural stone, there are several options available to make it look new again. Depending on the condition of the stone, perhaps it just needs good cleaning and polishing. In instances where the stone is scratched, worn, or chipped, we can hone it, removing just enough of the surface to remove blemishes. A good quality sealer will protect it for years to come.
With manmade tile such as ceramic or porcelain, the number one complaint is dirty grout lines. Ceramic and porcelain tile can not be honed. To make this type of tile and grout look phenomenal, we use a proprietary blend of surfactants, emulsifiers, and commercial-grade hydrogen peroxide to pre-treat the tiled area. The second step of this process is using a specialized tile and grout machine that safely applies over 900lbs of rinsing action at 245 degrees, dirt and contaminants don’t stand a chance. The result is an amazing-looking floor.
