In the picture above, a homeowner from Sanibel Island contacted us to clean the travertine stone floors in their home due to flooding caused by Hurricane Ian. Sea and mud waters entered their home and deposited silt and bacteria. The client contacted their insurance carrier, and Tru-Clean Surface Care was referred to help save their natural stone flooring.
Upon our technician’s arrival, we immediately power vacuumed and rinsed the mud and silt from their flooring to determine the best course of action to restore the natural stone appearance. Since travertine is porous, we treated the stone with the hospital-grade disinfectant Microban followed by a steam cleaning at 245 degrees.
The next step was to clean the flooring using a quality natural stone cleaning agent. We honed the stone surface, polished it, treated it again with Microban, and then sealed it using a penetrating commercial-grade sealer.
We use a similar approach for ceramic and porcelain tile surfaces but pay close attention to the grout lines. Grout is a porous material that can easily absorb water, bacteria, and dirt, making it a breeding ground for mold, dangerous bacteria, and mildew. We use specialized cleaning and disinfectant solutions, high-pressure steam, and safe rinsing at 1000 lbs to remove filth and prevent bacterial growth.
